A
reconstruction and study of the triumphal archways and other
architectural features built to mark the arrival in Madrid of Mariana
of Austria, after her marriage to King Philip IV. Through the extensive
documentation existing in the Madrid City Archive, a detailed
description is offered of each archway, each brief decoration, their
paintings and statues, indicating the artists who worked on them. The
book provides a broader view of the artistic panorama in the Court of
Philip IV and it completes the knowledge on the short-lived Baroque
period of the 17th century, one of the most complete exponents of which
are the royal arrivals, which in turn reveal many other aspects such as
the culture, the thought and the customs of the Madrid of the mid 17th
century.
