The
study of the arrival at Court of Maria Anna of Neuburg, forms part of
the author’s doctoral thesis, which is completed with the study of the
arrival at Court of María Luisa of Orleans in1680 (published by the FAH
in 2000). The thesis won the City of Madrid “Antonio Maura” Scientific
Research Award in 1992. This study analyses the architecture,
paintings, statues, inscriptions, poems and hieroglyphics through which
those responsible for the iconological and iconographical programme
attempted to express the ideas they wanted to propagate with this
arrival: To show an idealised image of the new sovereign and of the
royal marriage, thus exalting the monarchy.
