Pieter de Kempeneer, of Flemish origin, was
undoubtedly the best known painter of Renaissance Seville, although he
has entered the History of Art under the Castilian version of his name.
After initiating the reader in the social, cultural and economic
circumstances of mid 16 th century Seville , this work provides an
extensive study of his biography and works; both those resulting from
his stay in Seville and those he created upon his return to Brussels .
The book includes an extensive bibliography, together with names,
geographic and iconographic indices.
