Antonio del Castillo, who is one of the most important artists of the Spanish Baroque, has long been in need of a monograph that presents his autograph production, both the paintings and drawings. Castillo’s paintings are faithful to the chiaroscuro naturalism of Zurbarán, but they distinguish themselves by his prodigious narrative sense through which he achieves a graceful and skilful treatment of space. The authors publish numerous new documents about the painter that will help to know him more in depth.and will support his work more precisely studying the preparatory sketches for his compositions, his inspiration sources and the influence present in his
followers.
